We live in the information age, with communications and information processing at the very heart of society. Intelligent transportation systems, smart cities, traffic safety, healthcare, cloud services — all of these technologies and more rely on our ability to accurately and reliably share, store, process, and deliver massive amounts of data. This master’s programme will train you to design, build and reimagine the systems of an interconnected future, preparing for a career in a constantly and rapidly evolving field.
Graduates of this programme will be ready for an advanced engineering career in the fields of information and communication technology, combining deep theoretical and applied knowledge with the skills to conduct complex projects and a passion for discovery. In the core courses of the programme, the focus lies in giving you solid analytical skills and an understanding of the fundamental principles of communication and information processing, including random signal analysis, digital signal processing, antennas, information theory, and coding theory.
The volume and variety of information services and applications is expanding daily and the skills required to handle this flood of data and deal with the accompanying challenges are in tremendous demand. The need for communication engineers goes far beyond conventional data delivery and storage problems.
Generally, the educational methods in this programme place a specific emphasis on building and refining problem-solving skills, teamwork, and presentation skills, while the master’s thesis gives you training in individual research, project planning, documentation, and presentation.
You will also have the opportunity to interact with leading figures in the industry via guest lectures and study visits. The programme offers three main tracks for specialisation, with a generous number of elective courses to choose from.
Studying on this programme will prepare you for a hugely varied and fascinating career in the ‘interconnected world’. Your knowledge and ability will be highly valued, and you could work in fields ranging from intelligent transportation systems and traffic safety to the Internet-of-things, Industry 4.0, environmental monitoring, and smart power grids — to name just a few.
