The basic purpose of the Web Science and Technologies (WST) programme is to deepen the knowledge of web technologies and related fields that involve the use of the World Wide Web and result in online science.
Despite the fact that the World Wide Web is one of the most transformative applications in the history of computer science, it is in most cases considered and applied in computer science and informatics education more as a content delivery entity than a specially addressed integrated field.
For example, the World Wide Web is addressed in the areas of computer networks, computing policies and aspects, and economic principles of computing in computer science and informatics, and on the other hand in social sciences in social networks, data integration and information retrieval in the so-called social computing.
The programme is designed in accordance with the topicality of scientific and professional contents and the development of technology in recent years. It offers modern web technology concepts for the development of web science solutions and applies a breakthrough in the development of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology to web solutions and services.
It highlights three important technological paradigms in elective modules:
Web science and technologies (WST) is a study programme that we designed together with industry and organisations in response to the new requirements in digitalisation and digital transformation and development of technologies, and which also covers priority areas of action in addition to the content of the fields defined by the OECD in Slovenia, including the stipulation that students should be prepared for entry into the market.
Slovenia has set itself the goal here of “Using skills for the development of entrepreneurship and promoting innovation” and has established the following recommended areas for action: “Improve opportunities, skills and attitudes towards entrepreneurship”.
Web science professionals are competent in managing web projects while being able to capture a comprehensive and holistic view of the World Wide Web.
Graduates of this programme can be employable in a number of companies, scientific or public organisations and are willing to develop and lead projects related to the use and applications of World Wide Web services.
