The curriculum for the Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Global Politics provides the student with the practical and theoretical skills required to operate professionally in the field of international relations.

AUR’s International Relations and Global Politics Program brings together the academic excellence offered by our fantastic faculty and the opportunity of internships in organizations around the world to form an outstanding formation in the field.

A number of international organizations such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and Bioversity International have their headquarters in Rome, and its status as a capital city means that it is home to the political heart of Italy, as well as hundreds of foreign embassies and cultural institutions. This makes Rome the ideal place of study for anyone interested in International Relations and Politics, and the Program offered by AUR allows students to be a part of the action.

Diverse Backgrounds and Shared Interests

AUR is particularly proud of its diverse student body and is always striving to promote intercultural understanding, and this manifests itself in this faculty: this Program’s professors are a microcosm of the world in terms of their countries of education, life experiences, academic interests and expertise. This diversity of education and intellectual interests enriches the dialogue in the classroom and the learning of students in academic and real-world situations.

Theory and Practice

Students in this Program accumulate practical and theoretical skills which give them excellent grounding for careers in the field of international relations. The curriculum offers a focus on Europe, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, while also taking into consideration the role and influence of the United States on the global stage. Courses are offered in politics, economics, public administration, law and other areas of related interest. Outside of the classroom, students see their topics of study in action by attending international conferences that address topical issues and present the opportunity to meet, listen to and question those who develop and implement international relations policy.

Learning through Participation

Field trips supplement the classroom learning, with excursions on offer in Italy, Europe and beyond. The Program offers an annual trip to Ghana, which gives students the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the country’s politics, history and culture first-hand. Further excursions are organized to areas of current political interest – most recently, Kosovo – again with the aim of gaining a more profound understanding of the social and political background of the places studied in the classroom. Every year students participate in Model United Nations conventions around the world where they collaborate in discussions and propose resolutions on challenging international issues.

The University and the International Relations Club sponsor lectures, seminars, films and visits to embassies and other relevant sites in Rome. Recent speakers addressed topics as diverse as racism, Abraham Lincoln and the Italian imagination, and the concepts and consequences of revolution.
